This popular programme on the BBC’s Light Programme ran from 1946 to 1967. As a part of the post-war movement to encourage everyone in the home and at work, it offered a wide range of music to appeal to housewives at home during the day. It had little competition and therefore, through its appeal had a large audience following.
Its signature tune, ‘In Party Mood’ was composed by Jack Strachey. There were different presenters each week, entitled ‘compere’, but George Elrick was a regular compere who even wrote the lyrics over the signature tune.
‘Family Choice’ replaced the programme until 1970.
